Being popular is important. We all want to be liked and admired. If you aren’t popular you may not be included in social events and weekends can feel lonely and depressing. Even school can feel scary when you don’t have a group to rely on.
Friends come from all ages, shapes and forms. You can meet them at school, at church or even just in your neighbourhood.
Need some tips on making new friends? Try these out:
- Master a new talent. Finding a new skill to learn, like soccer or playing an instrument, can help you to connect with people who have similar interests.
- Walk with pride. Don't slouch, and look people in the eye when you speak to them. It’ll make you look super confident even if you don’t feel it.
- Talk to people. Really listen to what people have to say when they’re talking, don’t just wait for your turn to speak. People like someone who listens to them and will do the same for you in return!
Everyone feels lonely sometimes or worries that no one likes them. Text someone you haven’t spoken to in a while or talk to someone different in class. Small steps can lead to great friendships.
